The flooding in San Miguel County and other areas of New Mexico prompted Gov. Susana Martinez to sign an executive order Friday declaring an emergency.

"Through this executive order, I have directed state government resources to ensure the safety and well being of everyone affected by these heavy storms," Martinez said in a release. "As the heavy rains continue, I encourage all New Mexicans to continue to pay attention to your local weather forecast and be aware of warnings wherever you are."

Through the executive order, Martinez is declaring a disaster statewide due to flooding.

"Numerous New Mexico counties and Native American jurisdictions have been severely impacted by historic, record-breaking rainfall that started on Sept. 9 and is continuing," the executive order states. It notes that flooding has caused evacuations by air and ground of hundreds of individuals in Eddy, Sierra and San Miguel Counties.

In the executive order, Martinez directs the Department of Finance and Administration to make available emergency financial resources of up to $750,000 to the state Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management to help areas that are affected.

She also directs the adjutant general to "order into service any elements of the New Mexico National Guard as are or may be needed to provide military support to civil authorities as needed for this emergency."
