Authorities evacuated two hotels and shut down a half-mile stretch of North Grand Avenue on Monday after a man staying at one of the hotels told them he had placed a bomb in one of the rooms, San Miguel County Sheriff Benjie Vigil said.
The evacuations of Best Western and Days Inn as well as the closure of Grand lasted a short while.
Vigil said the man, identified as Tarin Zapata Oscar, a 22-year-old Mexican National, was upset and throwing rocks at vehicles near Sangre de Cristo trucking. The sheriff’s department was called, and a deputy made contact with the man.
