Still, it’s easy to get caught up in the moment when the convincing man at the other end of the line is telling you that you’ve won $2.5 million and an assortment of other prizes.
Pendaries resident Iona Gamertsfelder faced that situation last week. The catch: Gamertsfelder, 83, was told she’d need to hand over $500 in order to claim her prizes.
Realizing that it was likely a scam, she refused, and the caller hung up.
