Whites Peak is but one example of special interests taking over the lands we natives have always held in common and are now in danger of losing to insensitive newcomers and the bureaucrats who earn their living off the taxpayer, but continue to exploit public lands we’ve sacrificed to maintain and keep in the public domain.
We must all garner our resolve to maintain these holdings by denying our vote to those who would partner up with special interests to wrest these lands from the public domain.
This election affords us taxpayers a great choice. On the one hand, we have the land grabbers —Manifest Destiny is the mindset, even when Mother Earth continues to send us vivid protest messages — “Global Warning.” On the other hand, we must elect those individuals who endeavor to check development, where our fragile ecosystem is threatened.
Now comes the new Texas invasion. A Sept. 15 article by Barry Massey reports Susana “La Tejana” Martinez garnering support from out-of-staters. Most notably, the same issue reported Dalhart, Texas, rancher Cliff Skiles, gave GOP Matt Rush $10,000 for his campaign for land commissioner against Ray Powell.
Should Martinez and Matt Rush achieve their election goals, we can be sure they will place even more New Mexico public lands at the disposal of the land-grabbers.
Whites Peak is but a precursor to the “land wars” to come. Muster the insurgents.
