Manuelray Benavidez carved a place in modern Mora baseball history by tossing a no-hitter against Questa on March 23.

Benavidez struck out 14 to lead the Rangers to a 5-1 triumph over the Wildcats in Mora’s home opener.

The game went scoreless until the top of the fifth inning when Questa’s Zack Gallegos reached base on an error and later scored on another error.

But then Mora responded. In the bottom of the fifth, eighth grader Alonzo Aragon singled and Emmerick Martinez reached on a walk; then Santiago Griego hit a two-RBI single to grab control for Mora. Andres Martinez hit an RBI single to bring the score to 3-1.

Benavidez threw out three in a row to preserve the score in the top of the sixth.

In the bottom of the sixth, Quentin Dobbs started off the inning with a single. Aragon smacked a double to score Dobbs.

And Aragon himself scored on a passed ball.

As he had the previous frame, Benavidez struck out three in a row to end the side.

Leading the Rangers in hitting were Aragon and Griego, both 2 for 3.

The Rangers are coached by Manuel Benavidez.
