It didn’t take long for the Robertson girls’ soccer team (11-7) to recover from this past Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to Taos. The self-dubbed Beastie Girls stunned fifth-ranked Portales 3-2 in overtime on Thursday, then blanked Pojoaque 5-0 on Saturday.
On Thursday, Mikayla Maes nailed the game-winning goal off a pass from Tori Gallegos.
Portales struck first, a Jenna Sievers goal in the 10th minute. Belen Romero tied it on a steal-and-score a couple minutes later.
Caitlin Diefendorf’s goal in the 68th minute put RHS ahead for a bit, but the Rams knotted the score on a penalty kick.
Ashley Jaramillo had three saves.
“We played very well,” Parks said, calling it “a signature win.”
Then on Saturday, a short-handed Lady Cardinal group shut out the Elkettes.
Diefendorf opened scoring off a pass from Sonya Lane in the eighth minute. Diefendorf dished to Elena Martinez a couple minutes later for another goal. Tori Gallegos took a pass from Martinez to score in minute 26. Lane and Kristen Montaño scored in the 50th and 69th minute, respectively, off assists from Maes and Gallegos.
“We had many other scoring opportunities and really played as a unit,” Parks said.
Notes: The Robertson boys’ team (7-9) tallied a third straight shutout by nipping Portales 1-0 on Thursday ... Coach Juan Carrillo’s junior varsity girls are 12-2 after beating Hope Christian 5-2 on Friday.
