Baby suffocates in bed

A nearly 3-month-old baby suffocated in bed over the weekend after a parent may have unknowingly rolled onto the girl, authorities said Monday.

The death of Alexis Mae Barela was reported to Las Vegas police at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, apparently after her parents, Mark Barela and Adella Jaramillo, woke up, officials said.

Police Chief Gary Gold said officers believe the death was accidental, calling it a “devastating” incident. He said both parents were sleeping in the bed when the baby died.
