I understand that in his new biography of Jesus Christ, Pope Benedict XVI points out that, contrary to popular belief, there were no oxen, camels, donkeys or other animals in the manger.

I am a Catholic, but I have a tendency to disagree with our pope.

I was but a child in preschool when I was told the Christmas story. It was a donkey that carried Mary to Bethlehem where Baby Jesus was born. We learned and sang about the shepherds and their sheep, the camels who carried that three kings.
