AAUW Book Sale was successful

-A A +A

The recent AAUW Book Sale, the first one held outdoors, was a success, despite the intervals of rain, with thanks to many people: those who donated books, those who bought books, and those who volunteered their time.

Most important was the assistance of the United World College in allowing the AAUW to use its facility for storage of donated books and to hold the event on the grounds of U-7, the former Baptist Church. Thanks also to UWC-USA  for lending 15 tables on which to display the books.

The Las Vegas community once again showed its passion for  books and reading and its support of the AAUW mission by the many people who came to buy books.  The wonderful photo in the Optic by Art Trujillo shows the browsers and buyers in sunshine at just some of the tables loaded with books; the later arrivals ended up helping get books under cover and protected when (otherwise welcome) rain arrived in the afternoon. Even so, the sale continued to a successful end.

The funds raised by the used book sales provide scholarships for nontraditional women students at Highlands, in recognition of their dedication in overcoming obstacles to obtain an education for the benefit of their families and our community.

We hope to see all of you at our next sale.  Happy reading!
