SANTA FE — A second former Robertson High School football player has entered a plea to charges in a case in which six older players were accused of sodomizing younger ones at a preseason camp last August.
Santiago Armijo on Tuesday pleaded no contest to two counts of attempted criminal sexual penetration.
Armijo is to be sentenced April 24. Under the terms of the plea agreement, he will be sentenced as a juvenile, and could be held by the state Children, Youth and Families Department until he’s 21.
He is free in the meantime, but must wear an ankle monitor.
“The bottom line for Santiago is that he wanted to put this behind him as best he could, accept responsibility for his involvement, even though it was more limited than other people, and try to move forward,” said his attorney, Stephen Aarons.
Another former player, Jerek Padilla, reached an agreement with prosecutors in January. He pleaded guilty to criminal sexual penetration and conspiracy charges and also faces juvenile sanctions.
Both Armijo and Padilla could be called to testify against other defendants at trial.
