El Corte (“the cut”) is the mote/nickname many people use for this curve on Interstate 25 just four miles south of Las Vegas. A mountain cut made on I-25 left a tall portion on the southeast side and every winter from October through March the roadway here is in the shade even on sunny days. The result is that any moisture is likely to remain frozen in the curve when the rest of the highway is dry and safe.
