Arturo “El Toro” Crespin faces one of his biggest tests to date this Friday, when he fights Janks Trotter as part of an eight-bout professional boxing card at the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix.

Trotter, 27, is the No. 4 Canadian boxer in his weight class and is 4-0 with four knockouts. His latest fight was a first-round KO of John Hoffman on Nov. 12 before a hometown crowd in Calgary, Alberta.

Crespin is 6-1 with two KO wins. Most recently, he took an eight-round unanimous decision over Charles Alderete on Nov. 13 in Las Vegas.

The light middleweight bout is scheduled to go six rounds.

Super middleweights Jesus Gonzales and Dhafir Smith will go 10 in the main event.

It’s a busy time for Crespin, who’ll help headline an April 2 card at the Santa Ana Star Casino.

Crespin is slated to fight Michael Lueras in one of three featured contests that night.

Albuquerque’s Archie Ray Marquez is in the main event. Amanda Crespin, Arturo’s sister, will box Carla Torres in another feature bout.

Tickets ($12.50 general admission to $52.50 ringside) are available locally from co-promoter Carlos Crespin (429-4068), as well as from the casino’s box office. A link to the box office can be found at crespinsboxingpromotions.com.

Doors to the April 2 event open at 6 p.m.; first bell is set for 7.
