According to the drilling article in Friday’s Optic, “blackmail” appears to be an appropriate description of the letter signed and sent to Gov. Susana Martinez, by several state representatives advising her to “think twice” before approving outlay requests for communities that are seeking to restrict “extractive industries.”
And to think these are the individuals whom we elect to represent us.
As for the EPA completing its study of potential impacts of hydraulic “fracking” in regard to the results on drinking water and making the study available to the public, this should be an intelligent and sensible waiting period to assure safety and health issues.
I trust that the San Miguel County Commissioners also consider the importance of the pending EPA study in any of their future decisions.
