After securing a runner-up finish in district, the Robertson girls’ soccer team earned a No. 6 seed in the Class 1A-3A state tournament, which begins this weekend around New Mexico.
The Lady Cardinals and head coach Ian Williamson will play host to No. 11 seed East Mountain in a first-round match that gets under way at 1 p.m. Saturday at RHS Field.
The winner moves on to play No. 3 seed Sandia Prep at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at the Albuquerque Public Schools Soccer Complex. Semifinals start 11:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, and the championship is 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9.
Robertson is 14-5 overall and has won eight of nine home matches. East Mountain is 12-8 with a respectable 3-4 road record.
Last year, the Lady Cards AKA “Beastie Girls” reached the state semifinals, falling to a veteran Hope Christian squad.
Hope is the No. 1 seed and received one of four first-round byes, as did No. 2 St. Mike’s, No. 3 Sandia Prep and No. 4 Taos, who edged RHS for the district title.
